Diabetes is a condition where regular monitoring is important for its management and better Diabetes Life. To promote and encourage regular DIABETES MONITORING among diabetes population of India, Diabetes Awareness & You (DAY) has launched this initiative on WORLD DIABETES DAY, 2024. In this campaign, we will involve all stakeholders of Diabetes like Person living With Diabetes (PWD), Physicians, Diabetes Educators, Dietitians, Pharmacists, Psychologists, Nurse, Caregivers, Policy Makers etc. Please do share your experience and join the campaign.
DAY Research Grant
Diabetes Awareness & You (DAY) is always promoting research in the field of diabetes and related complications among it’s MEMBERS. We always feel that Diabetes is more than a medical issue, its a SOCIAL ISSUE and there are lot of areas, which are remains neglected till date. The paramedics like Diabetes Educators & Dietitians should engage themselves more in this field and thus DAY has announced ‘ILA MAJUMDER MEMORIAL RESEARCH GRANT’ for Diabetes Educators and ‘PROF. (DR.) ASIT BARAN SANYAL MEMORIAL RESEARCH GRANT’ for Dietitian/Nutritionists. Submission of application is CLOSED for the financial year 2024-25.

DAY Courses
Diabetes Awareness & You (DAY) is always promoting team-based care and the prevention of diabetes as a part of future healthcare reforms in India. Managing diabetes to prevent complications is a lifetime effort for Persons living With Diabetes (PWD)and here is the role of paramedics. We feel that we need well-trained Diabetes Educators, Nurses, Dietitians in our society to accompany the Doctors in order to build India a ‘Diabetes Care Capital of the World’. Under the project DEEP (Diabetes Empowerment Education Program), we are running ‘Certificate Course for Diabetes Educators (CCDE)’ and ‘Refresher Course on Clinical Diet (RCCD)’.
Bring Diabetes into Light
This campaign had launched by WHO & IDF in 2008, to create mass awareness against the ‘SILENT KILLER’ of this century by illuminating prominent/heritage building in blue on World Diabetes Day, 14th November but India could not participate. In 2009, DAY has initiated this campaign in India and with the kind help of Govt. of West Bengal, we had blue lighted Kolkata’s ICONIC HERITAGE installation MONUMENT (extreme left) and in subsequent years (L-R) GPO, Prinsep Ghat, Vidyasagar Setu (2nd Hooghly Bridge), Rabindra Setu (Howrah Bridge), Bandel Church (2nd ancient church of India), BigBen of Kolkata, Nabanna (State Headquarter) & presently doing it at SACHETANATA BHAVAN (our own building).
MoU with Bangladesh Diabetic Samiti (BADAS)
A HISTORIC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Bangladesh Diabetic Samiti (BADAS) on 27th September, 2017 at Dhaka in presence of Mr Abdul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Hon’ble Foreign Minister, Govt. of People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Mr Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh. This Indo-Bangladesh collaboration was done towards proper utilization of present infrastructure and expertise of DAY in India together with the available experience and expertise of BADAS in Bangladesh, towards improving the status of diabetes awareness and management in the World. The MoU was signed by Prof. A.K. Azad Khan, President of BADAS & Dr Debasis Basu, President of DAY.
T1D SUPPORT GROUP
The support system of T1Ds has been developed over time and we observed that apart from FREE insulin, diabetes education to underprivileged T1Ds there are lot T1Ds around us, who can afford their medication but they need different support other than those medications. One of the biggest steps was taken by the DAY to provide a FREE Insulin Pump to 5 T1Ds on 23rd May, 2018. Ace Indian-born international badminton player Nikhar Garg, who is also a T1D, was present on that occasion. Now we are going to the next step with the new initiative Type 1 & Beyond
ACTIVITIES DURING NATIONWIDE LOCKDOWN
Being a responsible Social Welfare Organization, DAY has made a commendable mark during the unprecedented nationwide LOCKDOWN phase owing to COVID-19 and committed to do the same in future. DAY had responded quickly and stopped all non essential activities and continued the EMERGENCY SERVICES like Ambulance Service, services under RESPECT & CARE etc. Besides that, we have undertaken several effective initiatives related to Diabetes & COVID-19…
Tour De Diabetes Care
DAY is always striving to reach common people with it’s MISSION of Diabetes Awareness & executed successfully an unique cross country Cycle Expedition ‘Tour De Diabetes Care’, to build-up social awareness against Diabetes. The expedition was conducted to mark two BIG DAY related to Diabetes, like International Diabetes Educator’s Day (IDED), 5th September and World Diabetes Day (WDD), 14th November. Our fellow activist & solo cyclist Samrat Moulick, Indian Book of Record holder being the cyclist, has completed this 3000 km expedition in 70 days and reached to lakhs of people of India and Bangladesh …
9th DAYDEIC
DAYDEIC (Diabetes Awareness & You Diabetes Educator International Conference) was first held in the year 2016 in association with Asiatic Society, Kolkata at the historic Vidyasagar Hall & the THEME country was USA. Since 2017, this conference was organized to observe the ‘International Diabetes Educator’s DAY, 5th September (IDED)’. The THEME of IDED (2022-26) is : ‘Access to Diabetes Education for ALL’. To reach the global community of Diabetes Educators, the 9th DAYDEIC will be held on a virtual platform on 10th November, 2024. The THEME country is MALDIVES. DELEGATE REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW.

A cartoon which one cannot miss, is this middle-aged and very relatable Mr.DAY, dispensing basic information and advice on DIABETES on hoardings, billboards & all forms of social networking on audiovisual & print media. He comes across as a friendly and very approachable character who can deftly handle the sensitive questions, the public ask him.
BEST INDIAN DIABETES EDUCATOR AWARD
Since 2018-19, Diabetes Awareness & You (DAY) has started the award ‘Best Diabetes Educator’ and in 2020, ‘Best Indian Diabetes Educator Award (2019-20)’ was instituted and nominations were received from PAN India. In 2021, we have started the “Best Indian Junior Diabetes Educator” award along with the “Best Indian Diabetes Educator”, based on the set criteria. The winners will get a certificate, gold medal & cash prize. SELF NOMINATION has already been started for this year award (2023-24) & award will be given on 5th September, 2024, organising to mark the ‘International Diabetes Educator’s Day, 5th September (IDED)’

DAY, a short fiction film on Diabetes Awareness
This initiative is dedicated to increasing awareness and inspiring action to ultimately confront India’s both T1D & T2D epidemic head on – one community and one patient at a time. Each person who has Diabetes is different, and their treatment plan needs to be customized to their specific needs. It may be very different from that of other people you know with Diabetes.
